LEAD partner Grapes of New Hope (GNH) has secured additional funding from EO Metterdaad for a new livelihoods initiative in Nakivale Refugee Settlement. The funding provides an important opportunity to expand GNH’s work with refugees while also demonstrating the organisation’s growing capacity to mobilise resources beyond the LEAD programme.
The Nakivale Comprehensive Refugee Response Project will be implemented by GNH together with the Shared Resource Center (SRC). EO Metterdaad has awarded €50,000 in project funding for activities running from April 2026 to September 2027.
The project will support 120 participants, of whom 60% are women, with training and practical support to strengthen their livelihoods. Participants will develop business and financial skills, including saving, money management and basic administration. The project aims for 60 participants to move into employment or start their own business after completing the training.
Alongside economic opportunities, the project will also invest in activities that strengthen relationships and address social norms, helping build greater trust within communities and supporting participants to meet their basic needs with greater confidence.
For LEAD, the new funding is encouraging for another reason as well. Strengthening local organisations means enabling them to build their own partnerships, develop credible programmes and attract resources for the priorities they see in their communities. GNH’s successful mobilisation of additional funding is a practical example of that ambition taking shape.
