The South Sudanese Refugees Association (SSURA) is a registered, refugee-led community-based organization operating in Uganda’s West Nile region. In September 2016 in Koboko, Uganda, SSURA was founded to foster reconciliation and peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities. Currently active in Arua, Koboko, and Yumbe, we support psychosocial well-being and economic empowerment, promoting self-reliance for both refugees—whether in settlements or urban areas—and local community members. Additionally, SSURA engages in advocacy to raise awareness of legal protection issues.

In LEAD Uganda, SSURA is one of the 12 implementing partners and one of the refugees led organization partnering in climate smart agriculture and financial inclusion.
What activities will you be leading or contributing to?
Support refugees and host communities to engage in climate resilient and nature-based value chains
Train farmers on disaster management and adoption of sustainable farming techniques that minimize environmental degradation, conserve natural resources, and promote biodiversity conservation.
Promote Land rights and land use practices for climate resilience and economic empowerment. Engage with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, to advocate for supportive policies and regulations that promote sustainable farming practices. (Advocacy)
Enhance business development support services for refugees and host communities, including training in viable enterprise selection, cost-benefit analysis, agribusiness knowledge, savings, and financial management.
Support sustainable agricultural production through training in climate-smart agriculture and value addition of products to increase farmers’ income.
Facilitate market access and market linkages for refugees and host communities, supporting value chain development, market intelligence, and access to fair trade opportunities.
Promote social cohesion by facilitating knowledge sharing through agricultural trade shows, farmer networks, and extension services.
Promote financial inclusion for refugees and host communities by supporting savings groups and microfinance services, as well as training farmers on digital financial
