Who we are

LEAD Uganda is a collaborative initiative

Supported by Woord en Daad

LEAD Uganda is a collaborative initiative supported by Woord en Daad, in partnership with local organisations and funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (through the programme grant migration and displacement). Together, we are committed to empowering refugees and host communities in Uganda, fostering sustainable livelihoods, and ensuring that these communities have a voice in shaping their futures.

Woord en Daad

At Woord en Daad, we are driven by a Christian commitment to justice and compassion, striving to restore dignity for every individual. Already more than 50 years, we have been dedicated to fostering sustainable change through innovative and entrepreneurial approaches. Our impact is made possible by the strong partnerships we forge with loyal supporters and experienced collaborators. Together, we continue to create lasting, life-changing solutions that uplift communities and transform lives.

Our Partners

We work closely with a network of trusted local partners who have deep roots in the communities they serve. These organisations bring invaluable local knowledge, expertise, and connections, ensuring that our interventions are culturally relevant and responsive to the specific needs of the communities. Partners include refugee-led organisations, civil society groups, and women’s rights organisations that are critical to achieving our mission of empowerment and inclusion.

As part of our co-creation process, these partners play a central role in shaping the design and implementation of our projects. They were carefully selected based on their proven capacity to address the unique challenges faced by refugees and host communities in Uganda, and many have participated in our System Change Canvas workshop and other strategic planning sessions.

Our donor

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) provides critical funding for the LEAD Uganda project. Their support enables us to implement comprehensive programs that focus on long-term empowerment and capacity building for refugees and host communities, contributing to peaceful coexistence and development in Uganda.

Our vision

We envision a Uganda where local actors are empowered to deliver essential services to refugees and host communities, creating opportunities for education, employment, and social inclusion. Our approach fosters peaceful coexistence, gender equality, and community resilience, with a focus on building local capacity and ensuring meaningful participation in decision-making processes.
